For someone who only knows them from a historical perspective, and based on your description of the whiskies, I would see Mays as Lagavulin 16, and Mantle as Uigeadail. I recall the 111.1 being same vintage and similar strength but from a pretty active sherry cask, whereas this one looks almost certain to be refill.
